The P2P lending market is unstable at this moment with the crash of Envetio and Kuetzal. Some people are raising concerns about Monethera. Thus we advise you not to invest in this platform in the medium term until the market becomes more stable. Invest in more trustable platforms such as Mintos.

Location-wise, the platform offer projects located in Germany, Latvia, Estonia and Poland

Projects usually return monthly interests (paid the 1st day of each month) and the invested amount (principal amount) is returned to the investor at the end of the investment which is often of a 3-18 months term.

The €1 minimum investment amount is a great advantage of this platform compared to his competitors Crowdestor (€50 min).

How it works

Here are the different steps describing the working process of Monethera:

  • Borrowers (Companies) apply to Monethera in order to require a loan for their project by providing in-dept documentation on their project business plan and their company finances, history, etc…
  • The risk analysis resource of the platform performs a risk analysis of each project in order to select the best risk vs return ones. For this process, they also have an external company helping in the risk assessment process.
  • Once the project is approved, it is displayed on Monethera marketplace usually for a period of 2 weeks
  • Investors (Lenders) and select the project, read it’s information and invest in it by selecting the desired amount
  • Investors receive monthly interests

Performances:

The ROI of Monethera investments is in the highest range of the market, averaging at 18% ROI and with projects ranging from 16.4% to 21.1% return on investments (directly related to risks). Compared to his competitors, the platform offers all of his projects in a high range of ROI, while others tend to propose high and lower ROI investments.

Safety:

Monethera offers two interesting features to investors:

  • Early exit: Investors can sell their investments back to the platform for a fee of 5% – 7% (depending on the investment). So it means they will receive back only 93% to 95% of their investment. The rate is provided before investing on a project.
  • Buyback guarantee: Monethera has a security reserve fund (the amount is unknown). In case of an investment default, the platform will directly reimburse investors with 35% of their invested amount. The remaining 65% and the interests will be provided later on once the platform has collected the entire dept from the borrower (this process can take up to 18 months).
  • Co-investment policy: Monethera has no co-investment policy, but in case the project gets at least 80% of the required investments, the platform will add the missing amount to start its implementation.

Due diligence/risk analysis

The platform has hired an external company to assess the risk of each investment opportunity in order to provide only the top ones. The company is called SIA Doma Audits. It’s a Latvian audit company with a track record of almost 20 years.

The following information are checked during the process:

  • Accuracy of financial and other inside information
  • Confirmation of the estimates/assumptions provided in the business plan
  • Compliance with the laws and internal company rules
  • Operational analysis: historical development of the company, structure, management, staff, sales information, procurement, strengths & weaknesses, constraints
  • Financial analysis: company’s ability to generate income
  • Obligatory legal expertise that determines the activities of the company in accordance with the applicable regulations in the field of civil, labor and corporate law
  • Analysis of the current market situation to determine the company competitive position

Advice

Monethera has between the highest returns (up to 21.1%) of the European crowdlending market with an average of 18% but has also a short track record with limited exited projects (for the moment successful). You should diversify your investments with this platform if you want to add riskier/high return investments to your portfolio.
